Quinta da Fonte Souto Florão White 2025, Vinho Regional Alentejano, Portugal

Florão White comes from Quinta da Fonte Souto, the Symington family’s high-altitude estate in Portalegre, where the slopes of the Serra de São Mamede bring cooler, wetter conditions than the rest of the Alentejo. It is a blend of Arinto, a Portuguese grape prized for its lively acidity, and Verdelho. The grapes are hand-picked, sorted and lightly pressed, then fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation is avoided and there is no oak, so the wine keeps its crisp, fresh character.

Quinta da Fonte Souto Florão White is juicy and bright. The nose shows white flowers, peach, stone fruit, citrus peel and a hint of mango. The palate brings pear, apricot and herbal notes, a gentle touch of spice and breezy acidity, leading to a crisp, refreshing finish.

Enjoy it as an aperitif or with grilled fish, seafood, salads, chicken dishes and fresh goat’s cheese. Serve chilled at 8–10°C. It is made to be enjoyed young and fresh, within two to three years of the vintage.

Quinta da Fonte Souto is the Alentejo estate of the Symington family, best known for their Douro Port houses. Bought in 2017, it was the family’s first vineyard outside the Douro. The 207-hectare property sits in the Portalegre sub-region on the slopes of the Serra de São Mamede, at around 500 metres, one of the highest vineyard sites in Portugal south of the Tagus. Granite and schist soils and a meeting of Atlantic and Mediterranean influences make it much cooler and wetter than the Alentejo plains, so the wines have freshness and finesse. The estate has a collection of mature, low-yielding vines, and the family is replanting part of the land with native trees. Florão is its younger, fruit-driven label.
