This Beaujolais-Villages comes from Domaine Lucien Lardy, the Fleurie family estate run by the third generation of the Lardy family. Made from 100% Gamay grown on granite-based soils, it is vinified plot by plot, like all the domaine’s wines, with gentle handling to keep the fruit bright and pure. It is a light, lively red that shows just how charming and refreshing good Beaujolais can be.
In the glass it is a vivid ruby with purple tints. The nose is bursting with fresh red berries, cherry and a lovely floral lift. The palate is light-bodied and juicy, with chewy summer red fruit, soft tannins, vivacious acidity and a clean, refreshing finish.
Serve slightly chilled, at around 12–14°C. It is perfect with charcuterie, pâté, quiche, roast chicken, burgers, pizza and picnics, and is just as happy on its own. Drink it young, while its fruit is at its most vibrant.
Domaine Lucien Lardy is a family estate based at Le Vivier, in the heart of Fleurie, founded in 1914 and now run by the third generation of the Lardy family. Lucien Lardy was one of the first growers in the area to leave the local cooperative so that the family’s terroirs could be bottled under their own names. The domaine holds old vines on pink granite in some of Fleurie’s most respected climats, including Les Moriers, where some vines date back to 1911, as well as plots in Moulin-à-Vent, Morgon and Beaujolais-Villages. Each parcel is vinified separately, and the house style favours perfume, freshness and clarity over extraction. Lucien is a founding member of Terroirs Originels, a group of Beaujolais growers committed to integrity, sustainable farming and the expression of place.
